Éric L Farrell (Woodbridge, VA)
- is currently residing in Northern Virgina upon completion of Seeking Solace, with Co-Author, Will Holmes Jr. and Foreword by Sonstar Carlisle Peterson. Farrell's first book, Verbalizions of Enlightenment: The Secret to the Pain,
was released Nationally on February 1, 2002, in major bookstores across America. With this book, the
Author was successful in defying all demographic barriers and reaching the hearts of people of all ages,
races and creeds.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Virginia Union University, Farrell was first acknowledged for his gift of writing at the age of seven with a Write-A-Thon Author's Award , followed by
a first place award the next year in the school writing competition for his short book
about eating healthy. After years of scribbling rap lyrics and short tales, Farrell's knack
for writing reemerged upon composing his first poem in English
class in 1995 (Woodbridge Senior High School). When given the writing assignment, he recalls thinking, "This will
be easy, I’ll just write as if I’m writing rap lyrics." This worked well
with him, as he has continued to write. The major
influences on his writing are God, music, fellow poets, and life
experiences. As a former college peer counselor he says, "To influence just one person in a positive
way is a great accomplishment." Through his poetry, he is able to do this as the Co-Founding poet of E&W Collaborations, a Christian ministry of poetry.
He began reading his poetry in schools, church, talent shows and poetry readings. Since, he has performed
everywhere from the poetry clubs in DC and NY's acclaimed Nuyorican Poet's Café, all the way to the pulpits of Nairobi, Kenya and Naples, Italy.
Farrell has even been the featured guest on live talkshow TV.
In 2001, Farrell was chosen as the September Winner of Russell Simmons’
One of Farrell's greatest accomplishment is
the success of his book of inspirational poetry entitled Verbalizions
of Enlightenment: The Secret to the Pain. This book has been loved by people of all ages and types. When asked to write about something
influential that had changed their views, one college student chose to
write about one of Éric’s poems entitled "The Train" and how it changed
his view of poetry. Another student preached a sermon based on this same
poem from Verbalizions of Enlightenment. "That makes me feel like I’m here
for a purpose." Most people assumed that Farrell majored in English, but he
felt that learning about poetry in his beginning stages would conventionalize his unorthodoxed
style of writing and make him less unique. He gives all credit for his
talents and successes in life to the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Farrell
says, "reading the Bible has given me a deeper understanding of all
areas in life and a better understanding of myself, others and God. God
speaks to us personally through the Bible. Without Him I’d be lost."
Def Poetry Jam (now a hit Series on HBO) for a poem entitled "They Follow You Follow Them" wherein
he spoke to spiritual leaders who flirt with hypocrisy and warned of the negative effects of such behavior.
Currently, he is Host of WordStage Poetry Lounge (sponsored by Barnes & Noble)
in Richmond, VA and WordStage Poetry TOUR, and a Poet of E&W Collaborations
— an online ministry of poetry, Co-founded by Farrell and his Co-author, Will Holmes, Jr. in 1999.

About The Author - Will Holmes, Jr. |
Will Holmes Jr. (Lawrenceville, NJ) - born May 7, 1979 in Trenton, NJ to William B.
Holmes, Sr.
and Helen V. Holmes, was raised in the company of three older siblings.
With a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Virginia
Union University, Holmes was very involved in school as the President of the
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Chairman of the Student
Action Committee. He is a born and bred leader, to say the least.
Having performed at several talent shows, poetry readings, and special events at schools and clubs during his college years, Holmes is pretty familiar with the poetry scene. Holmes’ poetry began as rap, which transformed into spoken word and written poetry by the second half of his freshman year. "The biggest influence in getting me into poetry, was probably my college roommate and poetical partner, Éric L Farrell,” says Holmes.
Placed as roommates by the University, the two were soon frequenting talent shows and events in the Richmond VA area; Will on rap and Éric on poetry. After writing a few poems, Will soon realized that he could bring forth a better message through poetry. And with the compliments and positive reactions of friends and audiences, it could not be denied that Mr. Holmes had true poetic talent. Untaught, it soon became obvious that what Mr. Holmes had, was a gift. And once he found out that his poetic skill was a gift, “I knew I had to use it to help glorify God and try to influence people in the right way,” he says. His inspiration for writing comes from his personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings.
Be it known, that with every poem, he seeks to convey a
positive message, and express his feelings and emotions. He aims to
reach
hearts, and rarely does he miss his mark. “Even if only one person out
of a
hundred feels the true message being delivered or is comforted by the
words,
then that is enough for me.”
“God is #1 in my life, because without Him, I would be nothing and
would
have nothing.”
Holmes is currently a Systems Analyst for the Information Services
Division
of Merck & Co. Headquarters, New Jersey.
About The Author - E&W Collaborations |
The group's purpose is briefly stated by saying, “We’re just
two brothers here, trying to spread a message with a positive purpose and a
spiritual essence. The lessons learned here are motivation for change,
and our mission statement is to ‘break the chains.’”
E&W Collaborations was first started as an online ministry of poetry in
September of 1999. Our mission was simple: to send our inspirational
poems as forwards on the Internet for free. We then included scripture
and short vocabulary lists of uncommon words. With the encouragement of our
readers, we have continued to do to so.
…E&W simply states, “We bring it real real. We bring it real true. God-inspired writers, with a message spread by you.”
